The Southern Ute Indian Tribe’s (“SUIT”, “Tribe”) Reservation lies in the northern half of the San Jan Basin, just north of the Colorado/New Mexico border. In the 1990's, the Tribe built both wealth and expertise in the natural gas industry based primarily on the Tribe’s substantial land ownership in the San Juan Basin coalbed methane play. Today the Tribe manages a diversified multi-billion dollar portfolio of investments, including substantial investments in real estate, alternative energy, and private equity in addition to oil and gas interests both on and off the SUIT Reservation.

Aka was established in 2002 to pursue midstream natural gas opportunities outside the boundaries of the SUIT reservation, where the Tribe already had substantial business interests in producing, transporting, and treating natural gas.
